4th Article of Faith
We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.
We started this week by having the kids recite the 1st Article of Faith, the 2nd Article of Faith, and the 3rd Article of Faith. They needed a bit more help this week than previous weeks, but they doing pretty good at retaining the information. The kids informed me that The Wife had told them earlier today what the 4th Article of Faith, but they couldn’t really remember what it was. We discussed what each of the 4 parts of the 4th Article of Faith, trying to explain it at their level.
1) Faith – believing in something that you don’t see, which is true. I gave them a poor example of a light switch. We believe that when we turn on the light switch, light will come on.
2) Repentence – when we are mean to someone or do something bad, we feel bad about it, tell them sorry, and don’t do it anymore.
3) Baptism – we go into the water completely and make a promise with Heavenly Father.
4) Gift of the Holy Ghost – The Holy Ghost will tell us what we should do and help us, but we have to listen to him. If we don’t, he will leave us.
We then looked up 8 scriptures, Doctrine and Covenants 58:42, 3 Nephi 11:33, Matthew 4:17, John 14:26, Helaman 5:47, 2 Nephi 31:8, Alma 32:21, and 2 Nephi 31:5. We determined if that scripture was talking about Faith, Repentance, Baptism, or the Holy Ghost. (the kids all got 2 Nephi 31:8 wrong). We used the 4th Article of Faith Worksheet (alternate download [download#40#nohits]), coloring each of the scriptures based on what the verse talked about.
We then sang The Fourth Article of Faith primary song. We then practiced it a few times, before sitting down and having a nice treat.
(Thanks SugarDoodle for the idea!)
