3rd Article of Faith
We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.
For this weeks lesson, I took a glass bowl and filled it about half way up with water. I also had some food coloring in a small cup and some liquid bleach in a small cup. I had the kids recite the 1st Article of Faith and the 2nd Article of Faith. I had The Boss read the 3rd Article of Faith. I then tied it into the 2nd Article of Faith a bit by reminding them that we are going to be punished for the naughty things that we do. But, because of the atonement of Christ, we can be forgiven, if we do what Jesus asks. We then looked at the bowl full of water. I told them that this water is like all of us, clean and pure. But then, we make bad choices, like be mean to our brother or sister, hit them, tease them, not obey mommy, lie, and lots of other things. I then dropped a couple of drops of food coloring into the water. The water changed colors and, I explained to them, was no longer clean and pure. Heavenly Father is clean and pure and has said that we have to be clean like He is, if we want to return to live with Him in Heaven. The Atonement of Christ allows us to repent and become clean and pure again. I dropped in a couple of drops of bleach and the water started getting clean and pure. Only negative we experienced was the amount of bleach needed caused a strong odor that my wife didn’t like.
We then practiced the 3rd Article of Faith a few times. The kids then had a game they wanted to play.
