I got back a bit ago from watching Paramount Pictures’ Star Trek Into Darkness. I will try not to give too many spoilers, but there are a few in here. You have been warned.
Honestly, I haven’t decided how I feel about it. There is a corrupt Star Fleet Admiral, but it isn’t Star Trek: Insurrection. There is Section 31, but this isn’t Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. There is a main character who dies but then comes back to life. But this isn’t Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and Star Trek III: The Search for Spock. There is a lovers quarrel in the middle of a really important mission, but it isn’t Stark Trek: Voyager. In some ways, it feel like JJ Abrams has taken what he thinks is the best lines and scenes from earlier episodes and movies, change them a bit, and use them here. Watching this movie however, there are times that I am not sure which one is Spock and which one is Kirk as they both seem to be doing what the other character would do.
Overall, I enjoyed the movie, and I hope for the continued release of new Star Trek material. But I’m not sure it was the right sequel for Star Trek (2009).
