2nd Article of Faith
We believe that men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam’s transgression.
For this weeks lesson, I took several small slips of paper and wrote different naughty things that the kids have done in the past, and put them in a glass bowl. I then had the 3 kids try to recite the 1st Article of Faith. They all did pretty good. I had 7-year old Mikey read this Article of Faith. I asked the kids if they knew what a transgression was. Mikey knew it was when Adam partook of the forbidden fruit, but wasn’t sure what a transgression was. I explained that a transgression is when we don’t do what Heavenly Father & Jesus want us to, when we make a naughty choice. So, Adam’s transgression was when he didn’t do what Heavenly Father wanted and partook of the forbidden fruit. We aren’t going to get in trouble, I explained, for the naughty choices that Adam, or anyone else, makes, just what we do. I then took the glass bowl out. I had each of the 3 kids and Amanda take a slip out, as did I. Mikey read his strip “talk during the prayer”. I asked if Hannah should get in trouble if Mikey talks during the prayer. Mikey thinks for a second, and then said no. Amanda helped Josh with his strip “get mad at your brother or sister for playing with your toys”. I asked him if Mikey should get in trouble if Josh gets made that Hannah is playing with his toys. After thinking for a moment, he said no. Hannah went next, with Mikey helping her with her paper “teasing Josh”. I asked her if Mikey should get in trouble when Hannah teases Josh. Without hesitation, she said “No”. Amanda and I read ours and the kids wanted to do more. I had done many of them so we could do several rounds. The kids found it very funny when I asked them if someone else should get in trouble when they make a naughty choice. And each time, they said no, the other person shouldn’t get in trouble. I liken it back to the 2nd Article of Faith. No one else will get in trouble for what we do, only we will. We all practiced saying the 2nd Article of Faith a couple of times. We then had a nice treat.
