Unite the GOP

I’ve been pretty hard on the Republican Party in recent posts as I feel that the party leaders have gotten too liberal for my liking.  John McCain, for example, is too liberal in social & fiscal areas, although his tone has changed recently. Talk, however, is cheap. I was a big supporter for Mitt Romney as his record is a conservative record. As I’ve said recently, I don’t think I could support a John McCain presidency, unless he picks a good conservative candidate. In January 2007, I thought that the Republican ticket would ultimately be a McCain-Romney ticket, and if it was, I will be voting for that ticket in November. If it’s not a McCain-Romney ticket, then I don’t know who I’ll end up voting for. It may be Chuck Baldwin, it may be Bob Barr. If McCain has a good, solid conservative, perhaps I’ll vote for that ticket.  I just want a true conservative in the White House.

A website that I recommend is UniteTheGOP.com, which is pushing for a McCain-Romney ticket.

Mitt's Ralley

I went to a ralley tonight at Brady Industries (Bill Brady, it’s president, and his family lived next door to my family, when I was really young) for Mitt Romney.  I was right next to him as he left and I went to shake his hand but he didn’t see my hand and shook someone elses.  Oh well.  It would have been exciting, but it was fun to hear his speak.

This morning, I talk about how I went about put up yard signs around my neighborhood.  Well, I went and checked on them tonight and two of them were missing…

Romney Yard Signs

I went the last two days to the Romney for President Nevada Headquarters and got some Yard Signs.  I put them up in front of my house.  Last night, I drove around Mitt Romney for President
my neighborhood and put some up around the area. I hope that it will cause people to wonder about the platform of Governor Mitt Romney and want to learn more about him. I believe that Governor Romney has a great record and I believe that he is the best choice for America.

Romney wins Michigan!

A few days ago, I posted my prediction for the Michigan primary.  I’m glad to say that I was wrong.  Even though the Democrat Primary wasn’t worth anything and it was an open primary, they still had over a half a million voters attend that primary, much more than was expected.  As a result, the cross over didn’t affect the primary as much as it could have.  68% of the voters in Michigan’s GOP primary were Republicans, compared to only 48% in 2000.

CNN’s latest estimated & awarded delegates:
Romney – 36 delegates
McCain – 19 delegates
Huckabee – 18 delegates
Thompson – 6 delegates
Paul – 2 delegates
Hunter – 1 delegate

My Michigan Primary Prediction

So, the Michigan 2008 Presidential Primaries are coming up on the 15th of January (that’s this coming Tuesday).  I figured I’d give my prediction on what’s going to happen. For those who have not been following the election closely, a bunch of states decided to move up their primaries & caucuses after Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid got Nevada’s moved up.  Michigan is one of these states.  The Democrat National Committee & the Republican Central Committee both told Michigan (and the other states) to move their contests back.  Many of them did not.  As a result, the GOP decided to cut the number of delegates from most those states to the GOP Presidential Convention in half as a punishment.  The DNC went even further (too far, in my opinion).  Michigan (and Florida) lost all their delegates in the Democrat Presidential Convention.  Essentially, the Primary in those too states are now worth nothing.  In Michigan, the Democrats went one step further.  Any candidate who campaigns in Michigan is not entitled to receive delegates at the Convention!  Most major Democratic Candidates (with the exception of Hillary) got their name taken off the ballot in Michigan.

Michigan has an open primary, which means you can go to whatever primary you want to go to.  Since the Democrat Primary is worth crap, I believe you will see a ton of Democrats and “independents” come to the Michigan Republican Primary, many of whom will either vote for John McCain or one of the Republican’s who do not have much of a chance in winning, just as a way to mess up the real conservatives running (ie Mitt Romney, Fred Thompson, and Duncan Hunter).

Romney pulls in the lead

Mitt Romney today won the Wyoming GOP Caucus.  He received 8 delegates for the National Convention.  Add those to the 12 estimated delegates he received for his 2nd place win in Iowa, Romney is now the leader in the GOP race.

Romney – 20 delegates
Huckabee – 17 delegates
Thompson – 5 delegates
McCain – 3 delegates
Paul – 2 delegates
Giuliani – 1 delegate
Hunter – 1 delegate

Please note, however, that they are still counting in Wyoming, so it is possible that these numbers may change a little bit.  But, as of 3:50 PM PST, Mitt Romney is in the lead.

A suggestion for Mitt Romney

I sent this suggestion to the Romney for President Campaign. I believe that if Mitt does as I have suggested, this will greatly strengthen his campaign and help him win the Presidency.

Mitt Romney needs to hold a press conference this week and say something to the effect of “If Ramos and Compean, our two Border Agents who are now in jail for doing their job, are not pardoned by the time I take office in January 2009, I will pardon them my first day as President of the United States”.

I believe this will help him among all conservatives, not just LDS/Mormon conservatives and can help move him from being “the Mormon candidate” to being the candidate who supports our law enforcement.

Everyone that I’ve talked to has liked this suggestion. As most of you know, I live in Nevada which will be holding the 2nd in the nation Presidential Primary in 2008. A win here would sure help a Romney campain.
