Colorado flooding and Las Vegas

With all the rain and flooding we have had in Vegas the last few weeks, this massive flooding in Colorado could have happened here.

Here is just one of many news stories on it in US News.

People have been stuck in their cars, sometimes for days with no food or water. This is a good example of why you should have a car kit. There is no phone, power, water, sewer, etc. and the roads are blocked. No one is getting in or out right now.

We are very isolated here in Las Vegas. Everything is brought in here by truck or rail. The only roads out of this valley are:
1) I-15 north towards Utah (and US-93 splitting off at Apex to go to Idaho)
2) I-15 south towards California, US-95 north towards Reno,
3) US-95/US-93 south towards Arizona/California (which US-93 splitting at Boulder City to Arizona and US-95 going to Needles, CA)
4) Las Vegas Blvd (old US-91), which runs parallel to I-15 north to Apex before being a dirt road and south a little bit past Jean.

You also have:
Blue Diamond Road (State Route 160) going to Pahrump (and eventually joining up with US-95)
Charleston Blvd (State Route 159) looping around Red Rock and then joining up with State Route 160),
Lake Mead Parkway (State Route 564) in Henderson and Lake Mead Blvd in east Las Vegas (State Route 147) which will take you out to Lake Mead which will eventually let you get on either US-93 south or I-15 north.

It may not be flooding, but an earthquake, fire, civil disobedience, pandemic, electrical grid failure, or so many other problems.

It is not possible to plan for every potential problem. However, it is possible to look around you and start to think of ways to mitigate and plan for some of these. Consider adding or starting a basic home storage of everyday food, some water storage, a rainy day fund, communication with loved ones, home defense, a car kit with some food & water, or anything else you may feel is lacking in your current setup.

September is national preparedness month. Let’s work on becoming more prepared individuals, families, and communities.

July Front Sight Membership Giveaway Winners

This morning, I typed the name of all the entries in my Front Sight Membership Giveaway contest.  As I had three ways to enter, my total entries were 31.  Several people had multiple entries, with one person having four entries.  I put all the entries in a small basket.  My kids enjoyed last time when I let Hannah, my youngest, pick the winner.  However, Mikey & Josh wanted to pick a name also.  So, this time, I let all three kids pick a winner, from youngest to oldest.

Hannah, my 3-year old went first:

Front Sight Membership Give Away

Front-Sight-Membership-Give-Away

In May, I decided to give away a Patriot Lifetime Membership to Front Sight Firearms Training Institute.  On July 2nd & 3rd, when I was at Front Sight for a 2 night defensive handgun class, I decided I wanted to do an even bigger giveaway!  Around 11:30 PM on July 3rd, all the students attending a class at Front Sight was gathered in the classroom, where an amazing gift from Dr. Ignatius Piazza, the founder of Front Sight,  was presented.  He was able to gather original signatures of all 56 patriots who signed the Declaration of Independence.  He put that, with their picture and a copy of the Declaration of Independence.  This will be proudly displayed at Front Sight.  The men who signed this document pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor in the cause of liberty and freedom.  Because of their bravery, our country was established, with its God Inspired Constitution. Part of this is the 2nd Amendment, which guarantees the right of the people to keep and bear arms.  I want to help protect this right by helping my friends and family and others gain valuable training.  The training provided here is amazing!  So, I am going to give away an amazing membership. The Book of Mormon on Self Defense

“And they were doing that which they felt was the duty which they owed their God; for the Lord had said unto them, and also unto their fathers, that: Inasmuch as ye are not guilty of the first offense, neither the second, ye shall not suffer yourselves to be slain by the hands of your enemies. And again, the Lord has said that: Ye shall defend your families even unto bloodshed. Therefore for this cause were the Nephites contending with the Lamanites, to defend themselves, and their families, and their lands, their country, and their rights, and their religion.”

Alma 43:46-47
