Dear Friends & Family;

Well 2009 has been a fun year.  Sometimes we wonder if life will ever slow down!  We got our Ham radio licenses this year and Michael, at least, is enjoying talking to people on the air.

Mikey is finally potty trained and is learning to put letters together to make words.   He loves Geotrax trains, Thomas the Tank Engine, the movie Cars, and any cartoon on TV.  Mikey will be turning 4 in January and is excited to be a Sunbeam at Church.

Josh is slowly starting to talk and loves to do whatever his big brother is doing.  He is becoming Mr. Independent and doesn’t want anyone’s help in doing things.  He will be turning 2 in March.

Michael has finally earned an Associate’s degree and is still working hard at fixing computers.  In February, he started working as the Director of Information Technologies for an INC 500 company here in Las Vegas.  He still manages his computer repair business, Las Vegas Geeks, as well so he stays busy.

Amanda was released from the Relief Society Presidency this past year and has been in Nursery ever since.  A few months later, Mike was called to teach in Nursery as well so it’s a great team.  She is a wonderful Mother and Wife.  She loves couponing and we are all impressed by her savings.

Love,

Michael, Amanda, Mikey, and Josh Cox

Mikey and Josh are just about over their colds, but we decided that we were going to keep them home from Church one more Sunday, just to make sure.  Trying to be a good Daddy & Husband, I told SWMBO that I would stay home with the boys and she could go to Church.  This morning, SWMBO announced that we should all stay home from Church (she was tired).  I waited about 2-minutes and then told her that if she was going to stay home, I’d go to Church and she could stay home with the boys.  She very quickly said she would go to Church.  So, the best way to motivate Wife to go to Church is to tell her she would have to stay home with the boys… interesting.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone.  As we all sit down and celebrate our blessings this year, I wanted to take a second and express some of the things that I am grateful for.

I am grateful for my family.  I don’t know what I’d do without them.  Amanda is the rock that keeps our family running smoothly.  She is (usually) so happy and sweet and forgiving of her 3 boys when we do something wrong.  She is the pretty girl I know and I’m happy that we have the opportunity to be together forever.  I’m so happy that she is willing to put up with me forever and I hope that I am worthy of her forever.

Mikey is my little namesake.  I am continually amazed at how smart he is.  I have no idea where he gets all of his knowledge from.  He’s almost 3 and fills each day of ours with happiness and love.  He tries really hard to be a good boy and a big helper.  And he normally is.

Josh is my little buddy.  At 8-months old, it is fun to watch him look around the room with wonder.  Everything is so new and exciting.  He also gives Daddy wonderful smiles.

My parents are so willing to help us with whatever we may need.  They love their grandchildren so much.

My siblings love my boys so much.  They go out of their way to let their kids play with my kids and to see us.

My in-laws are wonderful.  You hear all these Mother-in-Law jokes from people, but those people have never meet my mother-in-law.

Who would believe that 9-years after high school graduation my high school circle of friends still meets together about once a month for dinner and games?  They sometimes drive me crazy but I can’t imagine not seeing them or talking to them.

I’m so grateful for Jesus Christ, my Lord and my Savior.  Without His atoning sacrifice, nothing else would matter.  I strive each day to become more and more like Him so that one day when “he shall appear, [I] shall be like him” (1 John 3:2).  I’m grateful that in these last days, He has a prophet on the Earth, even Thomas S. Monson.  I strive to always follow the Lord and His servants for, as He taught, “whether by mine own voice or by the voice of my servants, it is the same” (Doctrine and Covenants 1:38).

I’m grateful to live in America.  She has her problems (most of which are Government induced) but she is still a wonderful land.  What other country has a Constitution inspired by God?  I didn’t support President-Elect Obama, but I wish him the best.  I hope he follows our Constitution and is a great president.  If he does, I’ll support him.  If (when) he doesn’t, I’ll oppose him.  I’m grateful that I have the freedom to do those things.

I’m thankful for so many other things that there just isn’t time for in this blog entry.

What are you guys thankful for?

Yesterday, She Who Must Be Obeyed told me she could see 3 gray hairs in my unshaven facial hair.  She told me that I should go shave them before anyone else could see them.  I told her that not only was I going to not shave them, I’m decided to name them: Amanda, Mikey, and Josh.

She rolled her eyes and didn’t say anything else.

Amanda & I were commenting about how smart Mikey is during dinner.  I asked Amanda if she thought Josh would be as smart as Mikey or smarter.  Mikey then said what sounded like “Dumb”.  Amanda & I looked at each other and started laughing.  What Mikey actually said is “Yum”.  His dinner was good, but he said it at just the right moment… :)

Mikey’s newest phrase is “How’s that deal?”.  He’ll come up to me and say something like “Daddy, when we get home, can I watch TV?  How’s that deal?”  It’s pretty funny.  We’ve started using that with him now too.  “Mikey, do you want to go do XYZ tomorrow?  Then you have to brush your teeth.  How’s that deal?”.  He’ll then tell me “That’s a good deal Daddy”.

I had an interview with the Bishop tonight and got home pretty late.  The whole family was up wanting to know what my new calling is (which I’ll post here at Mike’s World News on Sunday or Monday after I’ve been sustained and set apart).  It was, of course, way past Mikey & Josh’s bedtime.  Mommy decided that instead of reading scriptures, Mikey should just have a short story and then go to bed (and read scriptures in the morning).  Mikey didn’t want that; he wanted his normal two chapters a night (1 chapter in The Old Testament, 1 chapter in The Book of Mormon).  After Amanda & Mikey argued about it for a few minutes,  I announced “I’m not going to argue with my two and a half year old about reading scriptures.”  We proceeded to read them until Mikey feel asleep.

Its been a couple of busy days, so I’m behind on blogging.  :)

Josh is teething, so of course, he’s crying a lot.  Yesterday (Sunday) morning, Josh woke up crying.  I picked him up and tried to calm him down.  No luck.  Mommy took him, still Josh cried.  So, Amanda & I took turns getting ready for Church.  Josh was still crying.  I went and put him in his crib and then went and got Mikey from his room, waking him up.  I laid Mikey on our bed and started to get him ready for Church.  I went and got Josh and laid him on the bed next to Mikey.  Josh saw Mikey and Mikey reached out and held Josh’s hand and… Joshy stopped crying.

We got home from the Hospital a few days ago, but I hadn’t taken the time to post since then.  While Amanda was pregnant with Josh, we had told Mikey that Baby Josh was in Mommy’s tummy.  He seemed to understand and so I could ask him “Mikey where is Baby Josh?” and he would go touch Mommy’s stomach.  When we first introduced Mikey to his little brother Josh after we left the hospital, Mikey looked a little confused.  He then walked over to Amanda and lifted up her shirt so he could look at her stomach! Baby Josh had a dipper change, some Momma Juice and has now fallen back asleep.  I thought I’d take a few minutes to post some updates.  I posted yesterday a little bit of information as did Mommy.  However, neither of us posted very much information.

Josh was born at 5:54 PM Tuesday (18 March 08).  He weighed 7 lbs and was 18.25 inches long.  When he was first born, he was very pale and, as a result, the Nurses were a little worried.  They took Josh to the NICU.  Being his Daddy, I abandoned Amanda and went with Josh to the NICU.  I stayed with Josh until 6:30 pm when I was kicked out of the NICU, as they close to visitors until 8:00 pm for shift change.  So, I proceeded back to the recovery room with Amanda and stayed with her.  At about 7:50 pm, the hospital staff moved us to the room we’d be staying in until Amanda is discharged.  A few minutes after we got in this room, they took Josh back to us.  He is much more pink than he was, but still is pale compared to both Amanda & I as well as Mikey.  All of his vitals look good, however, so the staff thinks he will be fine.  Josh has been sleeping and eating well.

While the 3 of us have been at the Hospital, my sister, “Shell” (as Mikey calls her) has been watching Mikey for us.  She had surgery recently and so, one of my cousin’s 10-year old daughter came over to help babysit Mikey.  He has done very well so far with them.  He slept through the night and has had fun playing with them.  Neither my Mom nor Amanda’s Mom were able to come down to Vegas, so, while we miss them, we’re glad that Aunt Michelle is able to play with Mikey and we’re very grateful for her, as well as Taylor, Ammon & Rosie (who watched Mikey for a couple of hours yesterday).

I promise, I’ll get more pictures of Josh uploaded soon!
