Can Two Walk Together Without Agreement?

John McCain’s selection of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his Vice Presidential running mate was exactly what he needed to do to make himself competitive against Barack Obama in the November elections. (For the record, I predicted three weeks ago that Palin would be his choice.) As a result (and right on cue), conservatives throughout the country–especially Christian conservatives–are now fully supporting McCain’s candidacy for President. Even James “I-will-never-vote-for-John-McCain” Dobson has endorsed McCain.

By all appearances, Governor Palin is a true conservative. She is pro-life. She is pro-Second Amendment. Alaska is one of only two states (Vermont is the other) that recognize the right of their citizens to carry handguns without a Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) permit. She was rightly critical of the invasion of Iraq, once calling it a “war for oil.” Speaking of oil, she believes we should drill for oil in Alaska and throughout the U.S., and is critical of the federal government for allowing America to become dependent upon foreign oil for our energy needs. She even heaped praises upon the Republican that Republicans love to hate: Ron Paul. Beyond that, Lynette Clark, the chairman of the Alaskan Independence Party (the party under which yours truly is on the Presidential ballot this year) reports that Sarah Palin was a member of the party back in the early 90s. This is very encouraging in that the AIP is a patriotic, states’ rights party that holds strong sentiments opposing the New World Order propensities of the two major parties. In essence, Sarah Palin is everything that John McCain isn’t. Which leads to the question that was asked long ago by the Hebrew prophet: “Can two walk together, except they be agreed?”

As some of you may know, I served a Mission for my Church to the Oklahoma Tulsa Mission.

The Oklahoma State House passed Joint Resolution 1089 which says:

HOUSE JOINT

RESOLUTION 1089 By: Key

AS INTRODUCED

A Joint Resolution claiming sovereignty under the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States over certain powers; serving notice to the federal government to cease and desist certain mandates; and directing distribution.

WHEREAS, the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States reads as follows:

“The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”; and

WHEREAS, the Tenth Amendment defines the total scope of federal power as being that specifically granted by the Constitution of the United States and no more; and

WHEREAS, the scope of power defined by the Tenth Amendment means that the federal government was created by the states specifically to be an agent of the states; and

WHEREAS, today, in 2008, the states are demonstrably treated as agents of the federal government; and

WHEREAS, many federal mandates are directly in violation of the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States; and

WHEREAS, the United States Supreme Court has ruled in New York v. United States, 112 S. Ct. 2408 (1992), that Congress may not simply commandeer the legislative and regulatory processes of the states; and

WHEREAS, a number of proposals from previous administrations and some now pending from the present administration and from Congress may further violate the Constitution of the United States.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES AND THE SENATE OF THE 2ND SESSION OF THE 51ST OKLAHOMA LEGISLATURE:

THAT the State of Oklahoma hereby claims sovereignty under the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States over all powers not otherwise enumerated and granted to the federal government by the Constitution of the United States. THAT this serve as Notice and Demand to the federal government, as our agent, to cease and desist, effective immediately, mandates that are beyond the scope of these constitutionally delegated powers.

THAT a copy of this resolution be distributed to the President of the United States, the President of the United States Senate, the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, the Speaker of the House and the President of the Senate of each state’s legislature of the United States of America, and each member of the Oklahoma Congressional Delegation.

Popularity: 100% [?]

I’ve been pretty hard on the Republican Party in recent posts as I feel that the party leaders have gotten too liberal for my liking.  John McCain, for example, is too liberal in social & fiscal areas, although his tone has changed recently. Talk, however, is cheap. I was a big supporter for Mitt Romney as his record is a conservative record. As I’ve said recently, I don’t think I could support a John McCain presidency, unless he picks a good conservative candidate. In January 2007, I thought that the Republican ticket would ultimately be a McCain-Romney ticket, and if it was, I will be voting for that ticket in November. If it’s not a McCain-Romney ticket, then I don’t know who I’ll end up voting for. It may be Chuck Baldwin, it may be Bob Barr. If McCain has a good, solid conservative, perhaps I’ll vote for that ticket.  I just want a true conservative in the White House.

A website that I recommend is UniteTheGOP.com, which is pushing for a McCain-Romney ticket.

I’ve posted a little bit about the Constitution Party, a 3rd party.  A few days ago, they had their National Convention in Kansas City, and has nominated Chuck Baldwin as their Presidential candidate, with Darrell Castle as his running mate.  Now comes the challenge of studying their records and stance on issues.  I like a lot of what he says he’d do as President.  As my regular readers will know, I’ve been a registered Republican my entire life.  However, the Republicans are getting to liberal for my liking.  As the current subtitle to my blog says, I am the Sin City Conservative.  Note that did not say the Sin City Republican.  I have voted for Republicans, a few Democrats, and a few 3rd party candidates.  I do not just look to see if there is a “R” or a “D” (or any other letter for that matter) next to their name when I vote.  I try to study the issues.  I hope that who ever I chose to vote for in November is the best candidate for to be the President of this, the great country on earth!

So, its been a few day now since the Clark County Republican Convention. Of course, I’ve thought a lot about it. For about half of the Convention, I was sitting next to my friend Denise. I have since released that the last time I was next to Denise at a political function was back in High School. We both attended the Advanced Technologies Academy, in Southern Nevada.  In 1996, then US Vice President Al Gore visited.  People held up “Gore 2000″ signs and what not.  And, to be honest, I do not remember much difference between what Gore was talking about and what the people holding up signs on Saturday for John McCain were talking about.  Their policies, their believes, their voting records.  It’s hard to find much that different between those two, just one has a “D” after their name and one has a “R”.  And that’s not what I care about.

I do not agree with all of this, but I do agree with a lot of it and I find it very interesting.

Why can’t there be both a candidate for President of these United States that is both Fiscal & Social Conservative?  While Mitt Romney is not the perfect candidate, for many reasons, I do like him for many reasons.  Bottomline, I believe he is the closest to a true fiscal conservative and a true social conservative candidate running for President in 2008.  I don’t believe John McCain (nor any of the Democrats) is either one.  I think Rudy Giuliani is a fiscal conservative, but he isn’t a social conservative.  Mike Huckabee is most likely a social conservative, but he isn’t a fiscal conservative.  I really like Ron Paul’s fiscal conservatism, but he isn’t a social conservative either.  Where does a conservative like me go if Mitt Romney is not the GOP candidate?
