Who do you love?

October 05th, 2008 | Category: Family, Humor, Mikey

Last night, I was talking to Mikey before we read scriptures.  I said “Mikey who do I love?  Do I love M-I-K-E-Y C-O-X?”  Mikey said “Yes.”  Then I asked him, “Mikey, who do you love?”  He said “I love M-O-M-M-Y.”  “Who else do you love?”  “I love J-O-S-H?”.  “Who else do you love?”  Mikey’s response was “Ummm…. how do you spell Tinkerbell?”

(Tinkerbell is Aunt Michelle’s dog)

Gray hairs

October 01st, 2008 | Category: Family, Humor

Yesterday, She Who Must Be Obeyed told me she could see 3 gray hairs in my unshaven facial hair.  She told me that I should go shave them before anyone else could see them.  I told her that not only was I going to not shave them, I’m decided to name them: Amanda, Mikey, and Josh.

She rolled her eyes and didn’t say anything else.

Potty Mouth

September 30th, 2008 | Category: Family, Humor

As you guys know, we’ve been working on potty training Mikey.  Currently, we are using a potty chart and each time Mikey uses the potty, he puts a sticker on it.  He gets rewards based on the number of times, although recently, every time he goes, he gets a little mini bag of M&Ms.  A night or two ago, Mikey was about to go to bed and told us he had to go pee-pee.  I took him into the bathroom and he went pee-pee.  Afterwards, we went into Mommy’s office and he got a sticker and put it on his potty chart.  He then asks Amanda & I “What do I get”?  Mommy told him that he got a sticker for his potty chart.  Mikey looks at her and said “What do I get to put in my mouth?”

Will Josh be smart?

September 22nd, 2008 | Category: Family, Humor, Josh, Mikey

Amanda & I were commenting about how smart Mikey is during dinner.  I asked Amanda if she thought Josh would be as smart as Mikey or smarter.  Mikey then said what sounded like “Dumb”.  Amanda & I looked at each other and started laughing.  What Mikey actually said is “Yum”.  His dinner was good, but he said it at just the right moment… :)

Home Teaching and Mikey

September 21st, 2008 | Category: Family, LDS

Every month, when I go home teaching, I take Mikey with me.  I do this for several reasons, among which are;

  • I’m trying to set a good example for him
  • I want him to become friends with others in our ward.
  • I want him to love Church service.

Today, with my Home Teaching companion, Mikey & I went home teaching to a family in our ward.  They have a threeish year old.  He and Mikey played together pretty well.  When we were on our way home, Mikey told me “Daddy, I love home teaching.”  It made me happy to hear that.

I also like to make some kind of dessert to take with us when we go home teaching.  Today, I made brownies.  My home teaching companion made a handout, and used some cutesy scissors to decorate its border.  Later in the evening, Amanda told me that my companion and I are more like “Visiting Teaching companions” than Home Teaching companions.  Silly wifey.

How’s that deal?

September 18th, 2008 | Category: Family

Mikey’s newest phrase is “How’s that deal?”.  He’ll come up to me and say something like “Daddy, when we get home, can I watch TV?  How’s that deal?”  It’s pretty funny.  We’ve started using that with him now too.  “Mikey, do you want to go do XYZ tomorrow?  Then you have to brush your teeth.  How’s that deal?”.  He’ll then tell me “That’s a good deal Daddy”.

I had an interview with the Bishop tonight and got home pretty late.  The whole family was up wanting to know what my new calling is (which I’ll post here at Mike’s World News on Sunday or Monday after I’ve been sustained and set apart).  It was, of course, way past Mikey & Josh’s bedtime.  Mommy decided that instead of reading scriptures, Mikey should just have a short story and then go to bed (and read scriptures in the morning).  Mikey didn’t want that; he wanted his normal two chapters a night (1 chapter in The Old Testament, 1 chapter in The Book of Mormon).  After Amanda & Mikey argued about it for a few minutes,  I announced “I’m not going to argue with my two and a half year old about reading scriptures.”  We proceeded to read them until Mikey feel asleep.

Heart broken…

September 11th, 2008 | Category: Family
Tonight, I giving Mikey a bath.  He wanted to keep playing so I had to take away his toys and put him the bath tub.  He wasn’t very happy.  I told him “I love you Mikey.”  He looked at me, completely seriously, and said “I don’t love you Daddy.”  I didn’t know what to say.  He was my 2 1/2 year old telling me that he didn’t love me.  I’d expect something like that if he was older, but at 2 1/2?  It made me pretty depressed, although I feel a little silly how much it bothers me…

Josh likes Mikey

August 18th, 2008 | Category: Family

Its been a couple of busy days, so I’m behind on blogging.  :)

Josh is teething, so of course, he’s crying a lot.  Yesterday (Sunday) morning, Josh woke up crying.  I picked him up and tried to calm him down.  No luck.  Mommy took him, still Josh cried.  So, Amanda & I took turns getting ready for Church.  Josh was still crying.  I went and put him in his crib and then went and got Mikey from his room, waking him up.  I laid Mikey on our bed and started to get him ready for Church.  I went and got Josh and laid him on the bed next to Mikey.  Josh saw Mikey and Mikey reached out and held Josh’s hand and… Joshy stopped crying.
