The Next Radio Star?

September 06th, 2008 | Category: Entertainment, Mike's World

I tried out today for Radio Star 4 on Newsradio 840 KXNT.  I had a lot of fun doing it.  I had thought about doing it, but wasn’t sure if I was going to or not.  My friend Denise kept e-mailed myself and Troy that we should go out and try.  She thought we would do a good job.  At about 12:00, I called Troy to see if he wanted to go down to it (the contest started at about 9:00 AM).  He told me that he had already gone down.  I finally went down and got there at about 1:00 PM.  The people who were registering everyone said that they had filed up all the slots.  I was a little disapointed, but oh well.  I decided to stay for a while at watch.  I was going to sit near Casey Hendrickson, the afternoon drive time host and winner of Radio Star 1.  I’ve talked to him quite a bit via e-mail and phone, but have never actually meet him.  I decided, instead, to sit by the registration booth.  After being there for a few minutes, someone who was registered decided to leave.  The people registering asked me if I wanted to take his spot.  I did.  It was fun.  I got to meet Jodi, winner of Radio Star 2, who hosts the show “Jodi & Friends” Sunday mornings.  She gave some good advice when I was standing in the back waiting for my turn.  The Wife, who is at her parents for a week, listened online.  Ammon (and his parents) as well as Troy & Sarah listened on the radio.  After I do my audition, I went and sat by Casey.  After he signed off, I said hi to him.  It was nice to finally meet him in person.

I don’t imagine I’ll win, although the odds are not impossible.  There was about 110 people who tried out.  Of that, 20 people will be chosen as quarter finalists.  Once the process is all done, 1 person (out of 110) will be hired to have a show on News Radio 840 KXNT.

I’d like to thank Jack, Heather, and Alan for being judges, Casey and Patrick for hosting the show, and all the staff at KXNT who made this event possible.  It was a lot of fun!

About the name: X-Men: The Last Stand

May 27th, 2006 | Category: Entertainment

It seems a lot of people think the X-Men: The Last Stand is trying to imply that this is the end of the movie series. I don’t think so. I think that is means that if (in Magneto’s mind) they don’t take a stand, they will be no more.

X-Men: The Last Stand

May 27th, 2006 | Category: Entertainment

So, I went and saw X-Men: The Last Stand (aka X-Men 3) Friday night (opening night). Shortly before I left home, I read online *after* the closing credits there is a short but significant scene. I am sooooo glad that I waited to see the last scene. I would have been a little upset to have heard about it later.

Veronica Mars “Not Pictures”

May 10th, 2006 | Category: Entertainment

Last night was the season finale of Veronica Mars (hopefully not the series finale). I must say it was great. I read the spoilers and speculation too much and so already knew who the person who crashed the bus was. But it was still really good. My wife thought it was morbid. But after the show was over, she was talking about how much she likes this show and how she should e-mail her friends to get them to write to the CW and ask them to renew the show.

I think that there was an interesting line in it last night. A character named Clarence Weidman (who hasn’t been on the show since November) killed someone on the episode. He calls to tell someone about it. “CW?” “It’s a done deal”. Is that creator Rob Thomas’s way of telling us that the Veronica Mars on the CW is a done deal?

7th Heaven Wrap Up

May 10th, 2006 | Category: Entertainment

Well, the wife and I watched the last episode of 7th Heaven Monday night. It was good. I really liked it… until about the last 2 minutes of the episode. If you haven’t watched it yet, I will be talking about it and you may want to stop reading now.

So, Simon and Rose didn’t get married. Rose & Simon are dancing, then Rose and her father, then Rose and her ex-boyfriend. All of a sudden, Sandy (who we haven’t seen since her baby was born) walks in. Simon goes over to see her and says that he’s glad she came. She says “Simon, there’s something I need to tell you”. And then the episode ends. That really bothered me. There has been hints all season long that Martin may not be the father of Sandy’s baby, but that Simon actually was. Oh well, since there is the possibility that it may be back next season, they wanted to have something for us to explore.

Goodbye Camdens

May 08th, 2006 | Category: Entertainment

Tonight is the final episode (probably) of the WB’s 7th Heaven. I’ve watched this sweet family show off and on during the last 10 years (1996-2006). I’ve watched it very faithfully all of this season and most of last season as the Wife really likes it. It was decided earlier this year that it will not be picked up for the 2006-2007 season by The WB as it was getting too expensive. However, after the announcement of the CW, talk was in the works to cancel the cancel or to create a spin-off. As of now, neither one has happened.

Today, however, I want to be among the many people who say to Spelling Television and the WB; thank you. Thank you for making such a great, family friendly show. There are millions of families that appreciate it. We hope that Spelling Television (and others in the Media) will create new, high quality family friendly shows, like 7th Heaven.

Las Vegas now has a CW!

May 03rd, 2006 | Category: Entertainment

It was announced yesterday that KFBT (Gold 33) will be a CW affiliate this fall! That makes me very happy. I was surprised to learn a few days ago that KCNG-CA (UPN Las Vegas) passed on the affiliation, but it all works out. KFBT used to be a WB affiliate. When KUPN got purchased by Sinclair, they decided to drop UPN and switched to the WB. They even changed their call letters to KVWB. KVWB will become an affiliate of FOX’s new My Network TV.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

January 02nd, 2006 | Category: Entertainment

Last night, the wife and I watched Charlie and the Chocolate FactoryJohnny Depp and Tim Burton sure made the movie much different that its 1971 cousin.

The wife and I debated during the movie about the Oompa Loompa’s. I keep swearing that there was only one actor playing all of them. Deep Roy did a great job.

All in all, I think I liked the 1971s version better, but this was interesting also.
