A week or so ago, I logged into my Discover Card account and had the following message:

“A Discover Card with a new account number has been mailed to you as a replacement to the card you currently carry. Your account number has changed as part of a systems upgrade that offers you even more
benefits, such as, enhanced security monitoring on your account to help detect fraud earlier.”

I then received a new Discover Card in the mail.  When I called to activate, I asked them why one 16-digit account number is more secure than another one.  The CSR claimed that in November 2007, they did a system update to “better manage” my account to give me “the quality of service” that I deserved.  I then asked them why they couldn’t do that with my old account number.  The CSR seemed a little dumbfounded.  He then said that it was because the way the old accounts were numbered, they couldn’t do that.

This seems funny to me.  It seems like Discover Card / Discover Bank had some kind of security breach and they aren’t telling their customers.  This is enough for me, however, to take Discover from being my primary personal credit card to an emergency one that I keep at home, at least until I get a satisfactory answer.

What do you guys think?  Am I blowing this out of proportion?  Does it seem like Discover is hiding something?

We were at the store yesterday (Saturday, 29 June 08) and we were getting Mikey a toy that, with a coupon we had, was going to make the toy free.  There was another toy right next to it that Mikey wanted.  It was $50.00 or so.  He asked me if we could get it.  I told him something along the lines of “Mikey, we don’t have enough money to buy that right now.  If you want us to get it, Daddy is going have to work more.  Do you want Daddy to work more or do you want Daddy to stay home more and play with you?”  Mikey thought about it for a second and then said “Stay home and play with me.”

This is a followup based on comments left on a previous “Quote of the Moment” which lead Anthony to write “The Unpatriotic Act.

I thought this video by Chuck Baldwin, Constitution Party Candidate for President, to make good sense.

“The Supreme Court got this one right. While the ruling still contains elements gun owners should denounce, the justices acknowledged that the words “shall not be infringed” mean just what our Founders meant; and two centuries later the meaning of those words has not changed… Countless assaults against the right of the people to keep and bear arms by both Republicans and Democrats over the years have taken a toll through draconian gun laws and oppressive legislation which has slowly and steadily chipped away at Americans’ vital, God-given right to self-defense.”

Will the real Barack Obama please standup?  We hear him talking about “change” and “hope” and everyone coming together.  He tells us that he is above partisanpolitics.  He tells invokes the name of the Savior in his speeches.  Yet, his voting record is very disturbing.

I will say it straight out: any Christian or conservative who supports John McCain has no principles left worth defending!

As some of you may know, I served a Mission for my Church to the Oklahoma Tulsa Mission.

The Oklahoma State House passed Joint Resolution 1089 which says:

STATE OF OKLAHOMA

2nd Session of the 51st Legislature (2008)

HOUSE JOINT

RESOLUTION 1089 By: Key

AS INTRODUCED

A Joint Resolution claiming sovereignty under the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States over certain powers; serving notice to the federal government to cease and desist certain mandates; and directing distribution.

WHEREAS, the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States reads as follows:

“The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”; and

WHEREAS, the Tenth Amendment defines the total scope of federal power as being that specifically granted by the Constitution of the United States and no more; and

WHEREAS, the scope of power defined by the Tenth Amendment means that the federal government was created by the states specifically to be an agent of the states; and

WHEREAS, today, in 2008, the states are demonstrably treated as agents of the federal government; and

WHEREAS, many federal mandates are directly in violation of the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States; and

WHEREAS, the United States Supreme Court has ruled in New York v. United States, 112 S. Ct. 2408 (1992), that Congress may not simply commandeer the legislative and regulatory processes of the states; and

WHEREAS, a number of proposals from previous administrations and some now pending from the present administration and from Congress may further violate the Constitution of the United States.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES AND THE SENATE OF THE 2ND SESSION OF THE 51ST OKLAHOMA LEGISLATURE:

THAT the State of Oklahoma hereby claims sovereignty under the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States over all powers not otherwise enumerated and granted to the federal government by the Constitution of the United States. THAT this serve as Notice and Demand to the federal government, as our agent, to cease and desist, effective immediately, mandates that are beyond the scope of these constitutionally delegated powers.

THAT a copy of this resolution be distributed to the President of the United States, the President of the United States Senate, the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, the Speaker of the House and the President of the Senate of each state’s legislature of the United States of America, and each member of the Oklahoma Congressional Delegation.
