In just a few days, Mike’s World - a Blog by Michael H. Cox, will hit its 1 year birthday.  While I’ve been online for a long time, I’ve only had a Blog for a year.  I don’t post as often as I thought I would, but I think most of the posts that I’ve done have been worthwhile.  I really think that is more important.  After all, who’d want to read a bunch of junk posts that happen everyday?

I decided that it was official enough to announce it.  The Wife and I are in the process of moving.  We have purchased a larger, newer home in a nicer area.  We are really excited.  Of course, we are also worried, as one should always be when they are borrowing so much money.  But we think we got a really good deal on it.  We feel that everything will work out for the best!

So, we called and canceled our Cable TV from Cox Communications about a week ago. When I called, I told them that I have residential TV service but commercial Internet and that I do not want my Internet canceled. They told me that wasn’t a problem. So, we went out of town for Christmas and got back in town. This morning I was working online and then my Internet went out. I didn’t have time to deal with it then, so I left. When I got back and checked on it, I could see that it wasn’t connected for some reason but couldn’t find out why. So I called them and they had someone out in like 40 minutes. Cox Communications sent someone out who cut the cable line to our house. They didn’t release that I had business Internet services!

I’m so glad I spent my free time today dealing with this.

I’ve made my feelings on the Nevada Clean Indoor Air Act very well known here on this blog. See, for example, my blogs on 9 Nov 06 and 29 Sept 06.

When Judge Douglas Herndon decided to not allow it to come onto the books for a few weeks, I was very upset. See my blog on 8 Dec 06. Judge Herndon has decided to allow the law to take effect now…well, kinda. The Judge really took the teeth out of the law by not allowing criminal prosecution of people who break the law. Also, the Judge is going to listen to arguments in January to see if it is constitutional or not. If he decides its not, then he’ll through the law out then.

The State Legislator is not allowed to change any laws that the people pass by ballot questions for a few years. Perhaps we should not allow the courts to touch them for a few years also.

Judge Douglas Herndon voted yesterday for a two week temporary restraining order on the Nevada Clean Indoor Air Act. They will meet to discuss if the act is “constitutional” or not. You’d like to think if two courts (including the Nevada Supreme Court) already looked over it and allowed it be on the ballot that it would be constitutional. But no. Those who lost and supported question 4 feel that the 53.92% of Nevadan who voted to pass this bill weren’t smart enough to know what they were doing! So this liberal Judge decides that he needs to legislate from the bench. If Judge Herndon decides that HE needs to prohibit this act from going in effect, then I think that we Nevadans need to hold a recall election on him.

MSNBC is running a story and a poll at www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15936002/ asking if you would be willing to vote for a Mormon for President of the United States. In 2006 (and even more so in 2008), why does it matter what one’s religion is? Shouldn’t you vote for someone (or not vote for someone, as the case maybe) because of their political views? Because of their stance of issues that are important to you?

There is a bill that has passed the House. It just needs to pass the Senate. This Bill would prohibit groups like the ACLU from suing the States because of 10 Commands, Nativities, etc.

I think this is great. I called and left Senator Ensign a message, with my support and urging him to try to get it voted on before the end of the session. Senator Reid’s voicemail box was full. Kinda funny.

Sen. Ensign - (202) 224-6244
Sen. Reid - (202) 224-3542

I’ve included the Text, etc, from thomas.loc.gov.

We’re are so happy that question 5, the “Nevada Clean Indoor Air Act” passed. We will be able to go out and get food, gas, etc, and not have to smell smoke! There is a gas station just down the street from us that the employees are always smoking in. No more! Yeah. We had actually stopped going there months ago because of it, even though they normally have good prices and is on the way home.

So, not all the precincts have reported yet, but it looks like some of the people I voted for won, and some didn’t. The big ones in Nevada that I wanted to win looks like they will win, including Jim Gibbons, John Ensign, John Porter, and Dean Heller. Jerry Airola didn’t win (it wasn’t even close!). Also, question 5 looks like it will pass, which will outlaw smoking in most public places!!

I was wrong when I said I didn’t think the Democrats will take the House.
