3 New Temples in Arizona

On Saturday (24 May 08), President Thomas S. Monson, President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, announced a new Temple to be built in Phoenix, Arizona.  This is in addition to the two temples annouced for Arizona last month, 1 in Gila Valley, and 1 in Gilbert.  This will put 3 Temples in the Phoenix metro area.  I believe that this will be the first metro area outside of Utah that will have more than 1 Temple.

Bob Barr wins Libertarian nominiation

This weekend, former Congressman Bob Barr won the Libertarian nominiation for President.  I like some of what Congressman Barr has to say, however, I don’t like a lot of the Libertarian platform.  For example, III.3 says “Repeal all laws establishing criminal or civil penalties for the use of drug.” and I.9 says ” Repeal the federal Defense of Marriage Act and state laws and amendments defining marriage”, and I.8 states “We oppose government actions that either compel or prohibit abortion, sterilization or any other form of birth control… We support the voluntary exchange of goods, services or information regarding human sexuality, reproduction, birth control or related medical or biological technologies.”  These just aren’t the positions of a social conservative, in my opinion.

What do you like about the Libertarian platform?  Read it online at www.lp.org and then post a comment and tell me what you like and dislike about it.

Mikey's dreams

The Wife and boys are out of town for a week, however, I still wanted to post this Mikey story.

Every morning, when I go and get him from bed, he and I always sit down in a chair in his room and I give him hugs for a few minutes.  I ask him “How did you sleep?” to which he responses “Good”.  I would ask him if he had any dreams.  He would normally say yes, so I would follow it up with “What did you dream about?”.  Sometime last week, I was rocking with him and I asked him how he slept.  I didn’t ask him if he had any dreams.  He interrupted me all of a sudden and said “I had a dream last night.”.  I asked him “What did you dream about?”.  His answer; “Shoes”!  The next day, he had a dream about birds.  He has also had dreams about books, God, and horses.  It makes me smile.

The Inspired Constitution

My friend Denise has reminded me of a post that I’ve been promising for a long time.

I believe that the Constitution of the United States of America was inspired by God.

The Lord told us: “According to the laws and constitution of the people, which I have suffered to be established, and should be maintained for the rights and protection of all flesh, according to just and holy principles; … And for this purpose have I established the Constitution of this land, by the hands of wise men whom I raised up unto this very purpose, and redeemed the land by the shedding of blood.”  (Doctrine and Covenants 101:77, 80 – emphasis added).  The Apostle Paul taught “All scripture is given by inspiration of God” (2 Tim 3:16).  The Lord also said “And whatsoever they shall speak when moved upon by the Holy Ghost shall be scripture, shall be the will of the Lord, shall be the mind of the Lord, shall be the word of the Lord, shall be the voice of the Lord, and the power of God unto salvation” (Doctrine and Covenants 68:4).
