A Mormon for President?

MSNBC is running a story and a poll at www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15936002/ asking if you would be willing to vote for a Mormon for President of the United States. In 2006 (and even more so in 2008), why does it matter what one’s religion is? Shouldn’t you vote for someone (or not vote for someone, as the case maybe) because of their political views? Because of their stance of issues that are important to you?

  1. I agree, someone should be voted for (or against) because of their political views. However, for some people, especially many in the LDS Church, their religion helps to define some of their political views (of course there are exceptions – ie: Harry Reid). But, I also think one should not be judged solely on their religion. Unfortunately, there is so much garbage and misconception out there about the church, I can see it being turned into a real issue. Hey, maybe it can be a good missionary opportunity!
