Intuit called me back (really quick too) about the problem my customer is having. There is an update for QuickBooks 2006 that will cause the error message “Quickbooks is attempting to open this company file. Before you can open the company file from your computer, you must first open the file once on the computer where the company file is located. (-6177,0)”.

Yeah, its a known problem with the updates that QuickBooks asks you to install.
